The future of automated testing – a look ahead to 2025

Automation and artificial intelligence are changing how businesses approach challenges, including the complexities of software testing. At DWS, we’re introducing a range of practical updates and tools to make testing more efficient and tailored to user needs. Here’s what’s on the horizon for 2025.

Smarter tools for automated testing

We’ve been working on updates to make testing less time-consuming and more accessible. Building on the capabilities of Swifty, our chatbot assistant, we’re adding features like Record & Capture, which will allow users to perform actions directly within an ERP system. These actions will be automatically recorded as actions in Dimension SwifTest, capturing every detail without manual input.

Another upcoming feature, Auto-Action Creation, will let you give simple instructions in everyday language to automatically create test actions. For example, asking Swifty to “place ’30’ into the Branch Plant field” will generate the corresponding test action instantly.

Addressing security needs

Data protection is a priority, especially for industries with strict regulatory requirements. To meet these needs, we’re offering the option to host Dimension SwifTest data in a specific Azure Data Center, giving customers greater control over where their information is stored.

Additionally, support for Single Sign-On (SSO) has been added for those using Microsoft Entra. This feature integrates with multi-factor authentication to ensure secure and straightforward access, all under your control.

Reducing disruptions from ERP updates

ERP updates can create challenges by breaking existing test scripts. To tackle this, we’re introducing a Self-Healing feature. This will automatically adjust scripts to accommodate common changes, reducing the manual effort needed to fix them.

As test libraries grow, finding specific scripts or results can become difficult. Our planned DS Search tool will allow users to locate test scripts, scenarios or execution histories quickly, helping manage larger libraries more effectively.

Seamless integration across systems

Testing workflows often involve multiple systems. We’re improving SwifTest’s ability to connect with external applications, such as Agest’s TestArchitect, enabling users to test processes that span different platforms. Whether it’s handheld devices or backend systems, these updates will support broader testing scenarios.

Visual testing for better accuracy

Even small changes in an interface can have a big impact. Our new Visual Comparison Testing feature will flag visual differences between current and previous test runs, helping users identify layout changes or unexpected variations. This ensures consistent results, even as interfaces evolve.

Adapting to different testing styles

We’re developing features that cater to varied workflows. For example, the new Export/Import functionality will let users edit test scripts offline before uploading them back into SwifTest. Updates to Dimension Hub will also give administrators more control over managing users and subscriptions.

What’s next?

As we move into 2025, our focus remains on building tools that address real challenges in software testing. From simplifying the creation of test scripts to ensuring they stay functional after updates, our roadmap is designed to make testing more practical and effective for everyone.

Stay tuned as we roll out these automated testing features, and thank you for joining us on this journey to improve how testing is done.
