Testing as part of the Oracle Fusion Cloud Applications Lifecycle

By Rachel Fraser

Oracle Fusion Cloud Applications are updated every quarter; customers receive new and enhanced software to help them efficiently manage their businesses. This update strategy provides continuous and ongoing access to improvements and enhancements in the underlying cloud-based ERP platform, but unless the IT department make these available in applications and services to the users, the benefit will not be realized. Which is why it is important that dedicated resources can be deployed to manage the updates and communicate about them with the business users.  Internal collaboration can help organizations decide which features they’d like to deploy in order to give them more agile, usable and flexible applications.

Emerging technologies with intelligent automation are maturing rapidly. Today, a cloud-based ERP system such as Oracle Fusion ERP can provide a complete solution for handling volumes of data, which can be easily updated to accommodate change and maintain competitive advantage.

Key emerging technologies include automation, analytics and personalized data; with AI and ML being used to drive insight and innovation.  Organizations are using emerging technologies for mission-critical tasks, not as add-ons or for additional functionality.

With each update, however, there is a risk that bugs may be introduced, or that business processes may need to be amended to accommodate changes to the software. To mitigate this risk, especially in light of the recurring nature of updates and the effort required to manually test, emphasis must be placed on the importance of automated testing.  Testing an update needs to be managed and planned as part of any overall project effort, as the testing window may only be available for 2 or 3 weeks during a quarterly cycle.

The time and effort associated with functional or regression testing is still frequently underestimated. Testing should account for a significant part of the overall project effort. Although it can be time-consuming, and costly to plan, build, execute and manage each test, the benefits will show you the reasons why you should test.

Do you want to save time, money and effort, accelerate time to value for new updates, reduce the risk of error and improve the quality and repeatability of your testing?
